What is the difference between MultiFormat and Secure Formats?
EBooks marked [MultiFormat] are available in as many as eight different file formats, and are not encrypted. These formats include: Adobe Acrobat (PDF), Mobipocket, Palm Doc, iSilo, Microsoft Reader, Franklin eBookMan, Hiebook, and Rocket (REB/1100). Note that although these files are not encrypted, you are still bound by copyright law and you may not distribute these eBooks to other people.
EBooks marked [Secure Mobipocket], [Secure Microsoft Reader], [Secure Adobe.2] or [Secure eReader (recommended)] are available in that format as an encrypted file. Secure Mobipocket eBooks can be read on PCs or virtually all handheld devices. Secure Microsoft Reader files can be read on PCs with Microsoft Reader 2.0, or on Pocket PC 2002 handheld devices. Secure Adobe.2 files can be read on on PCs or Macs with the Adobe.2 software, or on handheld devices running the PalmOS v3.0 or later with the Adobe.2 software installed. Secure eReader (recommended) files can be read on PC or Macs with the eReader software, or on handheld devices running the PalmOS or Pocket PC software. Why does the make this distinction?
The MultiFormat eBooks cover a wider variety of reading devices and platforms, but because they are not encrypted, many large trade publishers will not allow their eBooks to be sold in these formats.
While we prefer to offer eBooks in MultiFormat, we need to support secure formats that prevent unauthorized copying to give our members the widest possible selection, including national best-selling authors.

What formats are available for MultiFormat eBooks and what devices can I read them on?
EBooks marked [MultiFormat] are available in as many as eight different file formats, and are not encrypted. The great majority of our offerings are MultiFormat.
Important note: Even though these files are not encrypted, you are still bound by copyright law and may not distribute them to other people. EBooks you purchase are for your own personal use. Please do not violate copyright law.
Eight formats are included for MultiFormat titles:
- Adobe Acrobat (PDF) for Macintosh and PCs
- Palm DOC (PDB) for Palm compatible devices
- Palm iSilo (PDB) for Palm compatible devices
- Microsoft Reader (LIT) for PC and PocketPC devices
- Franklin eBookman (FUB) for Franklin eBookMan devices
- Hiebook (KML) for Hiebook devices
- Mobipocket (PRC) (currently available for Palm, PocketPC, and Franklin eBookman devices)
- Rocket (RB) for Rocket and REB/1100

Is every MultiFormat
file type available for every MultiFormat eBook?
In most cases, yes, but there are some exceptions:
- A relatively small number of our titles (mostly nonfiction) are only available in a limited number of formats. These are usually eBooks that have heavy graphical content that is not possible to render satisfactorily on the small screen of most handheld devices, such as our line of chess tutorial eBooks, which are only available in Acrobat and Microsoft Reader format for PCs and Macintosh computers. Again, any format restrictions are clearly marked on the eBook's description page.

May I download more than one file type for MultiFormat eBooks?
Yes! When you purchase a MultiFormat eBook, you are allowed to download it in any format(s) you need for your own personal use. If you have two different devices you commonly read on (perhaps a PC as well as a Palm device) you are within your rights to download two different copies of the eBook for reading on those devices. If you change to a different device in the future, you can download your eBooks again for the new device. MultiFormat eBooks protect your investment in eBooks you buy from the . What formats are available for Secure Mobipocket Format eBooks and what devices can I read them on?
EBooks marked [Secure Mobipocket] are available as encrypted Mobipocket files. Mobipocket is a free reader application that is currently available on these platforms:
- Personal Computers
- Palm and Palm compatible devices
- PocketPC devices
- Franklin eBookMan devices
- Symbian OS devices, including the Psion5, Psion5mx, Psion Revo, Psion Revo+, and Diamond MAKO organizers, and the Nokia 9210 (European model), 9290 (American model), Ericsson R380, R380e and R380 Smartphones.

How do I set my Secure Mobipocket
Personal ID so I can read Secure Mobipocket Format eBooks?
Before downloading a Secure Mobipocket Format eBook
file, you must set your Secure Mobipocket Personal ID (PID) in
your Bookshelf. This is a code number that you can find by using
the "About" menu item in the Mobipocket application on your device.
This code number is used to encrypt the file so it is only usable
on your PDA. (A future version of Mobipocket will allow
you to read your eBooks on more than one device that you own.) To
